Proposed mechanism of cyclic mechanical stretch-induced caveolin-1 trafficking in vascular smooth muscle cells. Mechanical stimulation promotes caveolae endocytosis in a dynamin-dependent process, reducing caveolin-1 levels in the plasma membrane. Caveolin-1 is subsequently trafficked to the cytosol and incorporated into extracellular vesicles, leading to increased release. The extracellular vesicles from stretched cells exhibit increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. RhoA kinase (ROCK) mediates actin cytoskeleton remodeling in response to stretch, which regulates caveolin-1 mobilization
